"May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me."

Online Organizational Assessment

Printer-Friendly Version

Our online organizational assessment provides a quick and effective way for leaders to get an accurate idea of how well their organization is doing at promoting ethnic diversity and healthy, biblical ethnic relations.

What are some strengths of the tool?

  • Broad Input: It allows everyone in the organization to share their perspective rather than a select group of leaders or members.
  • Quick & accessible: The survey only requires 10 minutes for each person to fill out. Anyone with internet access can take the survey.
  • Key questions: Our design team has worked with expert Dr. Michael Emerson (see below) to carefully select the 44 questions on the survey.
  • Comprehensive: Questions address relational, systemic, motivational, and theological issues within an organization.
  • Easy to interpret results: We display the results in a variety of ways that make it easier for leaders to interpret.  We graphically display the results by various groups (members, leaders, majority, minority, etc.)
  • Immediately available results: All calculations are done on our web server so the moment someone submits a new survey response their answers are included in the summary report.
  • Customizable: If you prefer, we can make changes to the questions and the groupings (members, leaders, majority, minority, etc.)

How does it work?

  1. You request a quote.
  2. We e-mail you a quote and work out the necessary details.
  3. After we receive your payment we will e-mail you a unique survey link and results link.
  4. You forward the survey link to your members and leaders and ask them to take the survey.
  5. You can use the results link at any time to view a detailed summary of the survey responses.

How much does it cost?

The survey can be used by up to 200 people for only $100! We charge 50 cents for each additional person. That way you are only charged for the people who actually use the survey. We ask that you initially pay $100. Then, if you have more than 200 people use the survey we will send you an invoice for the additional amount (50c for each person over 200) which we ask that you pay within 30 days.

Please click here to request a quote.

Can I see an example of the survey?

Sure, here are two examples:
- For a church or ministry: survey link | results link
- For a Christian college: survey link | results link

Can we customize the survey, change the questions, the groupings, etc.?

Yes, in most cases. Please let us know how you would like it customized when you request a quote and we will let you know if it is possible and what the additional cost would be.

In the book People of the Dream, we provided an in-depth study of contemporary multiracial religious congregations. The observations in the book were based on over seven years of research and thousands of interviews by our research team.  In Chapter 7 (p.168) I describe several commonalities we observed in congregations that remain multiracial. Here is a summary:

  1. An instituational commitment to racial equity, clearly stated…congregations go beyond stating they will be multiracial by also stating their commitment to equity.
  2. Leaders who are personally deeply committed to racial equity…without this personal commitment, multiracial congregations will fall short.
  3. A common purpose that supercedes racial equity…their statements do not say, “Be multiracial” or “Obtain racial equity,” but rather they say they will be multiracial communities to live our their faith.
  4. Structures to ensure racial equity…a key goal of these structures is to ensure that outsiders come to be and feel like insiders, that they belong and have a voice.
  5. Internal forums, education, and groups…there must be a space where issues can be talked about, people can learn about race issues, and misuses of power can be discussed.
  6. Be a DJ…adjustments are normal, made often, and with a larger purpose in mind.
  7. Recognize that people are at different places, and help them move forward one step at a time.

I realize that many leaders read these types of lists and wonder, “How well are we doing in these areas?“  That can be a difficult question to answer. In our interviews we often discovered a big discrepancy between the leaders’ and the members’ opinions of how well things were going in the congregation.  We found it was essential to hear from as many people as possible to get a clear picture of what was really taking place.

That’s why I am excited about this Organizational Assessment tool. ReNew staff and I created this tool to provide leaders with a quick and effective way to get input from a broad cross-section of their members. I think it will be an enormous help to churches, ministries, and universities. I hope you will consider using it with your organization.
